Hello, we are a family of three. I am Captain Lousie, a licensed sailboat captain, botanist, bead artist, healer, and homeschool m of two amazing sons ages 11 and 12. Life has not been exactly easy for us, but despite life's many ups and downs I have managed to keep a positive outlook. I decided a long time ago that I didn’t want to wait until I’m in my sixties to retire and really start living. So, slowly but surely I built the life we love to live.
Homeschooling as a single parent was not easy at first but over time I figured it out. It takes a lot of flexibility to make all the pieces of our life fall into place. A big factor in having the time and flexibility to home educate and/or travel school my sons is running my own business where I can make my own schedule.
An entrepreneur at heart, I began my first “business” when I was about ten years old. I had learned to bead daisy chains from one of the homeschool moms I grew up with when I was eight. A week later my dad found me sitting on the front porch steps with his needle nose pliers and a coat hanger and asked what I was doing. “Making jewelry” was my reply. Over time I built my collection of beads and jewelry tools. At ten my dad saw that this wasn't just a phase and asked me to set up a table of my beaded jewelry at the farm swap meet. My passion for providing quality products and services grew from there.
As our business grows and evolves, so do we. I am a firm believer that we must always keep learning in everything we do. It is all about experiencing life and having a best day ever every day. Thank you for visiting our website, I hope you enjoy it and have a blessed day!
I want to share our incredible journey with you—a journey of resilience, adaptability, and the unbreakable spirit of family. We are a family of pioneers, bridging the gaps between past and future. We are third-generation home educators and off-grid homesteaders, and now, we stand as first-generation travel schoolers. We are the links in our family chain that are reshaping our destiny.
Let me tell you about our fearless leader: my mom, Louise. Professionally, she's a licensed Sailboat Captain, a CDL Class A driver, a beadwork artist, and so much more. Her versatility is matched only by her strength.
We've faced our fair share of challenges. Our story begins in a world where survival often meant living in a state of constant flight, fright, or freeze. Born into less-than-ideal family dynamics—marked by codependence and substance abuse—we have learned to thrive against the odds. Through perseverance and unity, we've transformed obstacles into stepping stones.
Our defining moment came in 2020. As the COVID-19 quarantine began, Mom was driving trucks. With family dynamics threatening our unity, she made a bold decision. She left her job and brought us home. We quarantined in a mobile home near Houston, Texas. Bored and looking for a new direction, Mom asked, “I have a little money saved from truck driving. What should we do with it?”
After a family discussion, my brother and I had a clear answer: “Let’s get that boat!” We packed up our minivan with essentials and our cat, J.J., and set off eastward. As we drove, Mom reached out to boat sellers and managed to arrange a trade.
In April of 2020, we arrived in Labelle, Florida, where we found Easterly—a 1969 Holland Contest 27 without an engine. Over the next few months, Mom transformed her, adding a ‘76 Evinrude outboard and making her seaworthy. Our adventure had officially begun!
We spent the next few years exploring Florida's Gulf Coast, learning to sail, and sharing our journey through a YouTube channel inspired by our friends, Sailing Zatara. Mom’s growing reputation led her to earn her captain’s license in September 2022, and she began offering sailing and fishing charters. We even enjoyed delivering sailboats by water!
But our dreams were interrupted by Hurricane Ian in 2022. The storm claimed much of what we had worked for, including Easterly. To make matters worse, Mom’s pickup truck was totaled shortly after the hurricane. Despite these setbacks, we pressed on.
Mom secured a job with a boat tow company, which allowed us to travel with her. By Thanksgiving, she had saved enough for a down payment on a new truck. We found an ambulance on Facebook Marketplace, and despite the bank's skepticism, Mom convinced them that an ambulance was the perfect work vehicle for a sailboat captain and homeschool mom. Thus, Clifford, our big red ambulance, became part of our story.
With Clifford well-tuned, we set out to find new sailboat opportunities. In Georgia, we struck a deal for a 1976 Morgan 41 named Sipapu. Our plan was to visit Grandpa before setting sail for circumnavigation. However, our visit was cut short due to family dynamics, and we encountered further challenges, including a breakdown in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Our trials continued as Mom faced an unexpected hospital stay due to an assault and a non-cancerous tumor found in her skull. In 2024, we’ve learned to treasure every moment together. On September 5th, Mom underwent craniotomy surgery to remove the growth. Now, we're enjoying the tranquility of the Colorado woods, waiting for her to be cleared for travel.
Once she is, we plan to reconnect with friends and family on our way back to Sipapu. We’re also working hard to relaunch our YouTube channel and revitalize our website.
Through it all, our journey is a testament to our unyielding spirit and our commitment to each other. Thank you for being a part of our story.
